Following the latest financial news, the 1H gaming tax in Macau is 40% of the total estimated revenue. This information was announced by the Financial Services Bureau. The Macau government has collected $2.46 billion for the first half-year of 2021.
The income of MOP19.64 billion for the first half of the year is 39.9% of the sum, that the authority expects to receive for a full 2021. But it’s still by 9.8% less than in the first half of 2020.
The income growth in gaming tax was visible for the last two months. Gaming tax for June was up 23.4% from May. Moreover, compared to the last year, June’s tax was up by 431%.
Macau’s government imposes a 35-percent tax on casinos’ gross gaming revenue (GGR). 39% is the total amount of taxes, including all the levies.
GGR of Macau’s casino was MOP6.54 billion (less by 37.4% compared to the previous year). The first half-year of 2021 has brought MOP49.02 billion, which’s more than MOP33.72 billion in 2020. This difference amounts to 45.4%.
What else does the government make money on?
There’re also taxes on the Chinese traditional lotteries, horse racing, and instant lotteries in Macau. Tax on commissions that operators earn from gambling makes up not a small part of income, too.
